Document Description
The Sonoma County Department of Public Infrastructure -Airport Division {Airport) proposes to construct an overflow parking lot for temporary storage of employee vehicles and rental cars on previously disturbed County owned parcel APN 059 260 010, located immediately north of the Airport Administration Building between Airport Blvd and Ordinance Road. The proposed temporary overflow lot would be used on an "as needed" basis to meet vehicle parking need. The parking lot would be a temporary graveled facility about 41,578 square feet in size, providing enough space for about 72 employee vehicles and 130 rental cars in a stacked parking configuration. Construction would entail close-cut mowing of the area, followed by placement of geofabric and compactable gravel (6 inches deep) over the site to provide a suitable driving surface. Approximately 1,000 cubic yards of gravel fill would be imported to the site. No site grading or off-hauling of materials would be required. The outer limits of the parking area would be delineated by simple post wire fence. Access to the parking lot would be from an existing driveway, and would be restricted to rental car and Airport terminal staff; no public parking would be allowed. Access to the site will be created from the driveway between Airport Blvd. and Kaiser Air by installing steel plates at the eastern edge of the driveway and partially up a small slope to the Field (to allow for continued conveyance of stormwater). There is no curb along this driveway and no curb-cutting would be required. No lighting would be installed; there may be a need for temporary light towers in the winter evenings and early morning for safety of employees using the lot (if used, these lights would not be used all night). Construction of the overflow lot would take about two to three weeks to complete depending on the size of the contractor and their resources.
