Document Description
The Alameda County Public Works Agency (County) proposes to install a large underground trash capture device on Hampton Road across from Western Boulevard in Hayward, California in an effort to achieve compliance with the 100% trash load reduction deadline by June 30, 2025, as set forth in the County’s current Municipal Regional Stormwater Permit (MRP3) with the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board. This entire large underground trash capture structure (approximately 22 feet long by 12 feet wide) and the trash capture device (approximately 14 feet in diameter) will be located within County road right-of-way. The underground structure will be in-line with an existing 60” diameter reinforced concrete pipe that outfalls north-westerly through the Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District owned San Lorenzo Creek vertical concrete channel wall. The trash capture device that is connected to the underground structure will be located on the north-easterly side. This portion of San Lorenzo Creek consists of a U-shape concrete channel bottom and walls. As part of the project improvements, approximately 55 feet of the existing 60” diameter reinforced concrete pipe north-westerly of the new underground structure will be removed and upsized to a 6-foot wide by 5-foot high reinforced concrete box. An approximately 9-foot segment of the vertical concrete channel wall (12 feet high) with the 60” diameter opening will be removed and reconstructed to accommodate the 6-foot wide by 5-foot high opening. A new rectangular flap gate will be installed in front of the 6-foot wide by 5-foot high opening to prevent backflow of channel flow into the drainage system.
