Document Description
After recent storms, there was a small slide at Hood Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve. There are two results: – A break in the water line that feeds existing water tanks for fire suppression in the Preserve and provides water to a neighbor as part of Preserve establishment agreements. - Sediment flow into Hood Creek, tributary to Sonoma Creek. The sediment has blocked about 2/3 of the channel including cutting flow to an existing spring box that feeds the water line described above. Park Maintenance crews are working to restore water service and remove the sediment from the creek before it washes downstream. The project includes repairing the water line (not in the creek), restoring flow to the spring box in the creek, removing sediment from the creek, and stabilizing the landslide with a combination of straw wattles, jute blanket, and silt fence. Parks crews will use biodegradable silt fence and seeded jute blanket if they are able to locate them in a timely way or use standard, readily available construction materials. Silt fence will be backfilled with sediment removed from the water channel. The purpose of the project is to restore water service and protect water quality on the Preserve and in Sonoma Creek, an important salmonid stream.
