Document Description
The County of Sonoma (County) proposes to construct a new essential service building and associated site improvements designed for the long-term operations of the County's Department of Health Services (DHS) Public Health Lab (PH Lab) and Sheriff Department's Coroner's Services (Morgue) on County-owned land, located at 2614 Paulin Drive, at the County Administration Center, in Santa Rosa. The new dual purpose building is proposed to replace the existing PH Lab, currently located at 3313 Chanate Road and the existing Morgue facility, currently located on 3336 Chanate Road, Santa Rosa. The new facilities would provide the same services as the existing PH Lab and Morgue, but in a new building, with shared modernized specialized equipment and operating systems. The new single story building would be approximately 27,000 square feet (SF) and will have a lobby open to the public with separate secure interior areas for both the lab and morgue functions. The functions will share similar heating, ventilation, air condition, electrical systems, chain of custody, security, and other needs that influence design and construction. Frontage improvements along Paulin Drive include public parking, sidewalks, and new driveway approaches. Three gates, one on the north and one on the south side of the building, and one in the back will provide access to secured areas for employee parking and ancillary areas for building generators, battery energy storage systems, and Coroner's Office trailer. Site improvements include grading for building pads, sidewalks, parking lots, bioretention basins, wet and dry utilities, and landscaping.
