Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes upgrading the Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) and Changeable Message Signs (CMS) along Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County at postmile R17.04 (SJ-5-R17.04) and State Route 12 in Sacramento County at postmile 0.636 and 5.854 (SAC-12-0.636, 5.854). The scope of work at SJ-5-R17.04 is to replace all electric components of the existing CMS Type 500 and Type 700. The scope of work at SAC-12-0.636, 5.854, is to replace all sensors, equipment, hardware and cables associated with the RWIS and upgrade the existing camera sensors for improved monitoring capabilities. All construction activities will be confined within the existing state right-of-way. The existing systems are outdated and unreliable, so this project will improve communication to travelers regarding road conditions, weather events, and traffic incidents.
