Document Description
The goal of the project is to increase native wildlife and pollinator habitat and provide a place for visitors of Araceli Farms to learn about native plants – their required care, habitat values, and human uses. Araceli Farms is working with Point Blue and Solano Resource Conservation District to install hedgerows, a native plant garden, and pollinator meadow to support pollinators and other wildlife. The hedgerows would be prepped and planted in part through volunteer workdays. These workdays will include workshops addressing topics such as tending and harvesting native plants, along with how and what to plant in home gardens to support Monarchs and other pollinators. Araceli Farms already has a large community of visitors. Through the installation of this project, the public will have the opportunity to learn more about native plants, pollinators, and Monarch butterflies specifically. This project will enhance wildlife habitat connectivity for a diversity of birds, mammals, and other wildlife. The hedgerow plant palette will reduce the vulnerability of wildlife to phenological mismatches by increasing the number of months and the amount of resources (cover, food) that are available.
