Reasons for Exemption
The Kings County Roadway Sign Installation, Upgrade and Replacement project is exempt from CEQA review pursuant to Section 15301(c) of the Guidelines for California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA Guidelines). This section states that a project is exempt from CEQA if the activity consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing or minor alterations of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use. The key consideration being negligible or no expansion of use. This project consist of the replacement of existing roadway signs and the installation of new roadway signs where needed. The improvements will not expand the travel lanes and traffic will not be impacted. The construction will be negligible.
