Document Description
On April 30, 2024, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance 6478, "Amendments to Sonoma County Code Chapters 25 (Subdivision Code) 26 (Zoning Code) to make technical changes and updates related to tree and woodland protections." The revisions to Chapter 26 include updates to the Definitions section, Tree Protection Ordinance, Riparian Corridor Ordinance, and Minor and Major Timberland Conversion Ordinances. The updates to the Tree Protection Ordinance include expanding the applicability of the ordinance, establishing a permitting process for projects subject to the ordinance and providing updated mitigation options. Updates to the Riparian Corridor Ordinance and Minor and Major Timberland Conversion Ordinances include minor technical revisions to reflect current policy and practice that increase tree protections. The proposed technical changes and updates provide a framework to guide the County's protection of tree and forest resources when permitting development that could impact tree and forest resources.
