Document Description
The project consists of the installation of pad- or wall-mounted rectifier, two small junction boxes, and a deep anode ground bed for cathodic protection of existing recycled water pipeline to provide protection against potential corrosion and degradation of the pipeline. Several anodes would be installed within the well and connected to the pipe and rectifier, to create an electrical circuit that would convert the pipeline from an anode to the cathode, protecting it from corrosion. This pipeline supplies recycled water (tertiary treated wastewater) that accounts for 100% of the irrigation water demand for seven golf courses within Pebble Beach. The project is anticipated to occur in Spring 2024 and would take ten (10) days to complete. The project would require a drill rig and small equipment required to dig necessary trenching.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is determined to be categorically exempt under the CEQA Guidelines as listed above. The listed exemptions are appropriate for the project because it consists of the following: installing a cathodic protection system on an existing pipeline and involves no expansion of existing or former use (15301 (b)); construction of a new, small facility to cathodically protect the existing pipeline (15303); minor trenching and backfilling where the surface is restored – which does not involve removal of healthy, mature, scene trees (15304 (f)).
