Document Description
The Los Angeles County Fire Department will conduct a fuel reduction project to reduce the fuel loading in Rivendale Ranch. We plan to implement prescribed grazing with goats and sheep. Our project aims to promote the safety of surrounding areas while showcasing the effectiveness of sustainable and eco-friendly fire prevention methods.
The project is located at Rivendale Ranch's 118-acre open space park in Towsley Canyon, operated by the city of Santa Clarita, Northern Los Angeles County. The project goal is to reduce the risk of a wildfire resulting from recreation actions at the park or ignition from the 5-freeway corridor. The aim is to reduce wildfire intensity and rate of spread for any fires in and around the wildland-urban interface. The project treatment areas include approximately 60 of the 179 acres owned by the City of Santa Clarita. This project will provide a strategic fuel break for the neighboring residential communities.

The project is exempt pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15304, Class 4 Categorical Exemption: Minor Alterations to Land. A Class 4 Exemption consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry and agricultural purposes. These actions include fuel management activities conducted in accordance with public fire agency determinations (Section 15304(i)).
