Document Description
In May 2016, the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) determined that the dam was at a very high risk of failure. In 2019, the Corps completed the Whittier Narrows Dam Safety Modification Study and initiated the design phase of the Whittier Narrows Dam Safety Modification project that requires modifications to Rosemead Boulevard owned and operated by Los Angeles County Public Works. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors delegated authority to the Director of Public Works to execute a Utility Relocation Agreement between the County and the Corps for the terms and conditions associated with raising Rosemead Boulevard, including amendments to the existing easement to capture a wider footprint and new drainage features. Under the agreements, the Corps will raise Rosemead Boulevard six feet within the County of Los Angeles unincorporated area and relocate existing utilities underneath the roadway.
