Document Description
Project proposes eighteen (18) temporary art installations at Big Basin State Redwoods State Park that will provide various improvements to the interpretive center and surrounding outside areas. The proposed work will include several updates to the interior of the interpretive center including wood paneling, an audio/visual display system, and two (2) mounted art pieces. Six (6) aluminum print panels will be installed at various locations in the Day-Use area, a ten-foot redwood archway will be installed on a trail connecting the parking lot and north end of the Redwood Loop Trail, and a redwood monolith will be placed on a freestanding mount on the concrete stairway of the former headquarters building.

Project consists of the operation or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels; construction and location of limited number of new, small structures, included as “Construction or installation of park facilities such as interpretive signing or panels” in the Department of Parks and Recreations list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR §15300.4; minor public or private alterations in the conditions of lands, water and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic tree except for forestry or agricultural purposes; and construction, or placement of minor structures accessory to (appurtenant to) existing commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities.
