Document Description
The Niland Gas Turbine Plant is a 93MW simple-cycle facility consisting of two natural gas combustion turbine generators. The plant began operation on 05/08/2008. The generators are critical to the reliable operation of the IID Balancing Authority, providing IID’s system operations center with voltage support, spin and non-spin reserve capacity and reactive regulation. On 01/19/2023, unit 2 tripped on compressor stall due to high vibration. Upon inspection Unit 2 revealed compressor failure damage with approximately 95% of low-pressure compressor rotor blades missing or damaged. Impact damage was observed on the high-pressure turbine and metal splatter noted in low pressure turbine. An outside contractor will disassemble gas turbine engine, take offsite, repair and return for re-installation at the site.
