The purpose of the project is to provide track capacity to hold freight trains prior to their entering the BNSF ROW between the Redondo Junction in Los Angeles and Fullerton, which would relieve potential congestion and facilitate an increase in passenger or commuter rail service on the existing Los Angeles–San Diego– San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor. No loading or unloading of trains would occur on the project staging tracks.
