Document Description
Under an emergency contract, the project will remove the historic coast live oak #7 located on the monument’s theater terrace because of its hazardous condition that poses a health and safety risk to visitors and employees due to extensive root rot and white butt rot. Work will: - Stage barricades and signage, reroute tours, and protect nearby artifacts, terrace, and plantings; - Monitor to ensure no nesting birds are present; - Remove steel support cabling and the concrete filled stump; - Cut or piece- down limbs, trunk, and grind the stump; - Use a skid steer to haul cut material to the green waste dumpster; - Use a forklift and skid steer to haul the replacement coast live oak, native soil, and compost for replanting; - Stake the replacement coast live oak with tree support auger anchors; and - Install drip irrigation. All work will comply with California Public Resources Code, the California Fish and Game Code, the Endangered Species Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and the Secretary of Interior standards for the preservation and treatment of historic resources
