The Project is limited to construction of an overpass over the Verdugo Wash to eliminate two existing at-grade rail crossings on the Southern Pacific Railroad at Doran Street and at Broadway/Brazil Street. The bridge extension requires construction of eleven, 72-inch-diameter columns within the Verdugo Wash, via the cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) method. The proposed Project will have approximately 0.46 acres of permanent impacts including 0.32 acres of open water habitat and 0.14 acres of cattail marsh. A cofferdam will be used to divert the water in Verdugo Wash to create a dry work area.
