Document Description
The Sunnyvale School District (SSD) proposes to replace the existing analog marquees with new digital marquees at four school campuses: San Miguel Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, Cumberland Elementary, and Colombia Middle. The proposed marquees would be approximately the same size as the existing marquees and placed in approximately the same location. The project also includes slurry sealing the asphalt as needed at each campus and installing a new shade structure at the San Miguel Elementary campus. The shade structure would be approximately 12 feet tall and 40 feet by 30 feet in size (1,200 square feet) and would shade an existing blacktop area on the central portion of the campus. Additionally, the existing rubberized surfaces within existing playground perimeters would be replaced with new synthetic turf at the Cumberland Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, and San Miguel Elementary School campuses. The project would not require tree removal.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed Multi-Campus Marquee Replacement and Improvements project would not introduce a new use onto the campuses or result in an enrollment increase. Per section 15300.2 of the CEQA Guidelines, it has been determined the project is not located on a hazardous waste site and the project would not affect environmental resources of hazardous or critical concern, result in a significant impact due to unusual circumstances, damage scenic resources, affect an historical resource, or result in a cumulative impact. For these reasons, the project is exempt from the provisions of CEQA.
