Document Description
The Project is limited to restoration of the Butte Creek House meadow, which includes installation of approximately 52 post-assisted log structures (PALS) and/or beaver dam analogs (BDAs), reinforcement of 15 existing log check dams with felled trees, implementing headcut treatment, filling the incised channel, construction of 4 rocked cross vanes in a riffle, selective removal of encroaching lodgepole pine, excavation of an anthropogenic sediment mound, and planting of riparian shrubs. The Project will restore hydrological function and structural complexity to increase habitat diversity and resilience to
climate change.

Reasons for Exemption
CDFW has determined that the Project meets the qualifying criteria set forth in Section 21080.56, subdivisions (a) through (d), inclusive. CDFW’s determination is supported by (1) Butte County Resource Conservation District’s April 14, 2023, initial determination as lead agency that the Project meets the qualifying criteria set forth in Section 21080.56, subdivisions (a) through (d), inclusive; and (2) pursuant to Section 21080.56, subdivision (e), the CDFW Director’s May 30, 2023, concurrence with that Butte County Resource
Conservation District determination, which is available at wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/CuttingGreenTape/SERP/Concurrences.
