Document Description
Implement forest thinning, chipping, biomass removal, and pile burning at Plumas-Eureka State Park to reduce hazardous fuels, improve defensible space, protect life and property, promote large tree resilience, increase vegetative and structural diversity, and create a mosaic of forest openings. Work will:
• Use heavy equipment and hand tools to thin 48 acres of forest land;
• Create up to 100-ft of defensible space around structures;
• Remove logs suitable for firewood and chip and remove remaining slash;
• Construct three (3) temporary landings (each approx. 120-ft by 120-ft) for project
duration and then remove after project completion;
• Restore all temporary vehicle/tractor off-road routes created for the proposed
project work;
• Construct, and then prescribe burn, piles dispersed throughout the 48-acre
project footprint;
• Repair or perform maintenance on existing roads, including but not limited to
improving or installing drainage features and/or repairing existing paved
surfaces; and
• Excavate three (3) 3-ft deep by 2-ft wide holes and install of one (1) gate at
Bridge Out Road.

This Project consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels and minor public or private alterations in the condition of land and/or vegetation which do not involve the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes and is included as “Resource management projects” in the Department of Parks and Recreation’s list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR§ 15300.4.
