Document Description
The project proposes to rehabilitate the existing Wolf Creek water system in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park to improve water distribution from the source and eliminate the possibility of waterline failures that could discharge treated water into Wolf Creek. To facilitate the use of trenchless pipe replacement methods to complete the project, work will: • Excavate two (2) 4ft x 4ft x 4ft boreholes and, from the opposite end, pull a 4-in. HOPE pipe from the pilot hole; • In forest areas, hand excavate approx. 3ft x 3ft x 3ft holes at 100 feet intervals along the replacement lines to track the location of pipe as it is drilled/installed and hand excavate, as needed, to address obstructions; • On either side of Prairie Creek, approx. 100 feet from the creek itself, excavate one (1) approx. 4ft x4ft x 4ft borehole to install pipe via trenchless methods approx. 15-ft below the creek channel; • Replace a portion of the line between the Wolf Creek outdoor school trail and the under-channel crossing; and • Drain and remove the existing waterline spanning over the creek, and remove all other materials associated with the old water line. Only water will be used as drilling fluids. The new creek undercrossing will be performed during an overlapping construction timeframe during the summer or early fall of 2024. With CDPR coordination, the Nature Trail will be closed for approximately 3 weeks during the summer or early fall of 2024.
