Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-MAN-29291-R3, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the Marin County Parks and Open Space District. The Project is limited to repair of two bridges on the Mill Valley-Sausalito Multi-Use Path which have deteriorated due to age and saltwater corrosion. At site 1 repairs will consist of replacing steel hardware throughout the bridge with similar stainless-steel hardware, replacing deteriorated wooden bent cap extensions with stainless-steel brackets, replacing the decaying wood in abutment bulkheads and wingwalls, connecting cap beams to the piles, replacing any other decayed wood, and replacing existing rip-rap at the bridge abutments. At site 2 repairs will consist of replacing steel hardware throughout the bridge with similar stainless-steel hardware, replacing deteriorated wooden cap beams with a single beam, connecting cap beams to the piles, and replacing existing rip-rap at the bridge abutments. Access to the lower areas of the bridge at site 1 will be achieved by suspending a platform from the bridge superstructure, which will prevent disturbance of the mud creek bed below the bridge. Access to the lower areas of the bridge at site 2 will be by foot across existing rip-rap. Heavy equipment will access the site via the existing Mill Valley-Sausalito Multi-Use Path. Vehicles and equipment used to complete repairs may include two-axle trucks for materials and hauling, one or two multi-axle cranes, small skip-loaders, pickup trucks and other vehicles for carrying crews, generators, pneumatically and electrically driven power tools, lighting devices, and hand tools. The project will move existing rip-rap that has been displaced within the stream to its original location at the bridge abutments by hand and therefore will not result in permanent impacts to tidally influenced mud flat, consisting of placement of replacement rip-rap at bridge abutments. The Project will not impact vegetation. The Project will not result in temporary impacts and no heavy equipment will be operated in the stream. No work will occur in the wetted portion of the stream.
