Document Description
CalFire will perform annual controlled burns on approximately 400 acres of grassland around the Thermalito Forebay and Afterbay. These activities include prepping areas using lop and scatter, construction of control lines using hand tools and a skid steer, and burning the grassland. These controlled burns are a way for the Department of Water Resources (DWR), Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), and Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) to control and manage the vegetation and fire risk in these areas.

This project is exempt because it is maintenance of wildlife habitat areas. The burn will not impact any sensitive biological or cultural resources habitats. This project will improve the natural environment and avoid any sensitive areas. The burn areas will also serve as fuel breaks and decrease the fire potential around the Thermalito Forebay and Afterbay which are popular public use areas.
