Document Description
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), pursuant to authority granted under California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 22, Division 4.5, Chapter 20, Sec. 66270.61, has issued an Emergency Permit to the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar (EPA ID# CA9170024740) to destroy the compromised explosive devices recovered from a crashed military aircraft. Specifically, two (2) Mk 124 Mod 0 Signal, Smoke / Illumination; one (1) Mk 124 Mod 0 Impulse Cartridge; one (1) Mk 2 Mod 1 Impulse Cartridge; two (2) Impulse Cartridges; fourteen (14) Mk 80 Mod 2 Signal, Hand Fired; and eleven (11) Mk 124 Mod 0 Signal, Smoke / Illumination must be completely destroyed beyond any transport. These compromised explosive devices are currently being stored at MCAS Miramar located at Building 6022, San Diego, California. DTSC has determined as a safety precaution to prevent an accident or severe injury, an Emergency Permit should be issued to safely destroy the compromised explosive devices at a nearby location by MCAS Miramar Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team (EOD).
