Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
CEQA Guidelines Class 1 § 15301
Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 1 categorical exemptions set forth in California Code of Regulations sections 15301. Section 15301 (Class 1) exempts from CEQA “the operation, repair, maintenance … or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities … involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination” including “(b) Existing facilities of both investor and publicly-owned utilities used to provide electric power, natural gas, sewerage, or other public utility services.” The project is exempt because it involves repair to existing facilities by replacing water piping and associated appurtenances, which does not involve expansion of use of the CENGEN.
