Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes fuels reduction and vegetation management along SR-49 in Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. The work will occur at various locations between post mile (PM) 10.50 and 30.80 in Calaveras County and between PM 6.15 an 23.37 in Tuolumne County. The scope of work includes removing brush, shrubs, ground fuels, debris, and dead, dying, and/or hazardous trees that pose a threat to public health and safety, and smaller diameter, suppressed, or intermediate trees in areas of high density. The purpose of this project is to reduce and rearrange vegetation while creating breaks in fuel continuity along the SR-49. The project is needed to facilitate the safe ingress and egress of vehicles and personnel during emergency wildfire events.
