Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), using state funding only, has complete culvert maintenance on two failed culverts in Siskiyou County, State Route 97, Post Mile 27.22 & PM 28.7. The cause of the culvert failures was a separation of culvert sections which allowed fill material around the culverts to become mobile after a series of unusually heavy winter storms. This project is needed to prevent or mitigate the loss or impairment of life, health, property, and essential services.

The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be categorically exempt in accordance with section 15301 (Existing Facilities). Class 1 consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. Caltrans has determined that this project would have negligible or no expansion of existing or former use, and would have no significant effect on the environment.
