Document Description
The nature of the project would be general routine maintenance activities for the Sonoma Water’s Mirabel water diversion structure (inflatable dam, fish ladder and intakes). The maintenance activities would primarily include the removal of gravel deposited on top of and adjacent to the inflatable dam and any needed repairs to the dam to continue the operational function of the water diversion structure. The gravel removal would occur during low flow condition when the work area is not inundated by the active flows of the Russian River. The inflatable dam is a critical component of the Sonoma Water’s water supply system for over 600,000 people in the region. Gravel material deposited on top of and adjacent to the dam after winter high flows does not allow the dam to be raised without causing damage to the dam. There often is not a lot of lead time as flows recede between being able to see how much material is on top of the dam and when the dam needs to be raised to meet community water supply demands. Sonoma Water is pursuing long-term routine maintenance permits for this maintenance.
