Document Description
The proposed project would be to construct a regional stormwater capture and filtration facility located beneath a 1.6-acre undeveloped area at the northeast corner of the Skylinks Golf Course in the City of Long Beach. Currently, stormwater flow adjacent to the project site travels down the existing Los Angeles County Flood Control District improved Los Cerritos Channel (also known in this area as Wardlow Channel) and bypasses the project site. The proposed project would intercept storm flows in the channel and divert them to an underground storage basin. From there, the flows would either be pumped up to vegetated storage ponds or be allowed to infiltrate the soil to recharge the groundwater. Excess water from the ponds would flow back into the Los Cerritos Channel. Once the underground structures are installed, the project site would be landscaped with native trees and shrubs, and would include paths made up of decomposed granite, benches, an interpretive signage, and a relocated volleyball court. There would also be vegetated swales and bioswales strategically placed through the constructed vegetated storage ponds to promote enhanced natural treatment mechanisms to dry weather flows. The project would include a publicly accessible pedestrian pathway along the flood control channel and usable space within the current open and undeveloped area for educational purposes.
