Document Description
Replace existing, out of date, fire alarm devices and sprinkler systems in all hilltop spaces at Hearst San Simeon State Historic Monument to ensure the safety and protection of park visitors, staff, and facilities. Work will: Upgrade existing speakers (alarms) and connections with new in the three (3) Casa Grande Houses; the Neptune Pool Dressing Rooms and Mechanical Areas; the Roman Pool Building; the Hilltop Office Complex; Barracks 1,2,3 & 4 and associated dog kennel; the three (3) modular buildings located at the Guide Complex; and the China Hill Cell Structure, Maintenance Structure and Firehouse; and Upgrade the existing fire sprinklers (to meet current code requirements) in the basement rooms of the three (3) Casa Grande Houses; the Roman Pool Building; the Maintenance Yard shops and the Firehouse and adjacent shops.

Project consists of the operation or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities or topographical features involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels, and is included as “Utility repairs or minor upgrades” in the Department of Parks and Recreation’s list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR §15300.4; replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced; and consists of projects limited to maintenance, repair, stabilization, rehabilitation, restoration, preservation, conservation or reconstruction of historical resources, in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing Historic Buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer.
