Document Description
Pacific Power is planning maintenance activities on their existing, up to 15 kilovolt (kV) overhead distribution lines paralleling Route 96 and the surrounding Siskiyou County. The activities are the outcome of Pacific Power's continued fire mitigation program of system hardening in California and is being conducted in accordance with the CPUC guidelines. Work within the Caltrans ROW will consist of reconductoring the line with a spacer cable system (i.e. wires), updating system protection and other equipment as needed, the replacement of 17 wood pole structure with steel, fire-resistant structures, and replacement of guys and anchors. Structure construction and conductor stringing will include cutting and removal of existing structure within the Caltrans ROW. New steel poles will be hoisted into place using a line truck.

The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be categorically exempt in accordance with Section 15301 (Existing Facilities), Class 1 (Operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination), Subclass (b)—Maintenance of existing utilities used to provide electrical power. The project would have no significant effect on the environment.
