Document Description
On the basis of evidence found during recent inspections and tests of the Coachella U1 turbine: rust and debris on the inlet floor, damage to the leading edges of multiple first stage buckets (a turbine bucket includes a leading edge, a trailing edge, a root portion and a tip portion), damage to the exhaust baffles. Repairs of the turbine were indicated. The repairs consist of: turbine disassembly, hot gas path inspection, performance of leak test procedure on assembled nozzles, turbine case removal, removal and replacement of first stage buckets and row one nozzles, installation of turbine case and unit startup. The gas turbines are a key part of the IID resource portfolio by providing energy and ancillary services to the IID Balancing Authority. The repairs will result in reduced life cycle costs and increased reliability of the unit for restoration of IID’s bulk electric system in the event of a partial or total blackout of the IID system.
