Document Description
The artist duo Studio Tutto is collaborating with the non-profit group Friends of Griffith Park (FoGP) and the Office of Council District 4 in creating a commemorative mural (Mural) to celebrate the legacy of P-22. The Mural will also celebrate the ecology of the park by depicting native plants and animals in addition to P-22. The Mural installation will include relocating the current building identification signage, and removing several low-growing juniper shrubs, replacing them with native plants and a Seed Spire. Seed Spires, an original concept by Studio Tutto, are compressed earthen sculpturers embedded with native wildflower seeds. Over time the spires sprout, grow, bloom and reseed to feed pollinators and start the next generation of blooms. The six-foot-tall spires are temporary installation which eventually erode, becoming part of the garden landscape. The Mural will be installed on three separate walls at the Griffith Park Visitors Center, and the exact locations and renderings of the Mural are depicted in Attachment 5. The Public Art Application and signed Artist Waiver are shown as Attachments 1 & 4, respectively. The Mural is expected to take between 2 to 4 weeks to install, and have an installation period of ten (10) years. Anti graffiti coating will be provided by MuralShield. Beneficiaries of the project are the patrons of the park.
