Document Description
To remove and replace the existing weir and downstream riprap, construct a new River Canal retaining/intake wall and construct a new instrument building. The project also includes 1) the reconstruction of a sand plug, 2) the installation of electrical conductors, lighting, control panels, guard posts, fencing and gates, 3) the redistribution and grading of approximately 14,000 cubic yards of sediment, and 4) the installation of a 12-foot-wide paved bike path on the adjacent levee and weir structure, which will connect existing paths on both sides of the river. The proposed weir is 87' long by 13-to-17' tall by 45' wide, and the proposed retaining wall is 25' long by 13' tall by 2' wide.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 1, Existing Facilities categorical exemption (CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15301), because the activity consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use. No expansion of existing or former use will occur. The project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 2, Replacement or Reconstruction (CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, 15302), because the activity consists of replacement and reconstruction of an existing structure in the same site and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the replaced structure. Further, none of the exceptions to the exemption in CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15300.2 apply.
