Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has conducted emergency highway repairs located along State Route (SR) 158 in Mono County just North of June Lake, California at Post Mile (PM) 2.0. To repair the highway, the existing asphalt encompassing ½ of the northbound lane at PM 2.0 was saw cut and removed for about 150 linear feet. The roadway prism was excavated to approximately 3-5 feet and the structural section was rebuilt with alternating layers of road base and geo-synthetic reinforcement fabric. A temporary concrete roadway surface was placed over the stabilized embankment. 1-ton of rock slope protection (RSP) was placed to support the area where the shoulder had failed. To further support the shoulder and the outside of the embankment, a rail pile wall was installed at the northbound hinge point, beyond the edge of pavement (EOP). A water line and sewer line owned by the June Lake Public Utilities District was reconstructed and relocated under the pavement. The contract will be suspended over winter until there is hot mix asphalt (HMA) available at which time the contractor will remove the temporary concrete surface and place HMA surfacing.
