Pacific Power is planning maintenance activities on their existing overhead distribution lines within the City of Weed and the surrounding Siskiyou County. The activities are the outcome of Pacific Power's continued fire mitigation program of system hardening in California and is being conducted in accordance with the California Public Utilities Commission guidelines. Project work within Caltrans ROW includes the replacement of one existing segment of overhead distribution line crossing the highway with a segment of underground distribution line crossing the highway.

The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be categorically exempt in accordance with Section 15301 (Existing Facilities), Class 1 (Operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination), Subclass (h)—Maintenance of existing landscaping, native growth, and water supply reservoirs. The project would have no significant effect on the environment.
