Document Description
The Fire and Police Seismic Improvements project will provide seismic corrections to the Fire and Police Station building to meet UC Seismic Safety Policy. The project consists of seismic improvements and accessibility upgrades. The seismic corrections consist of surgical upgrades designed to strengthen the identified building deficiencies and include placement of fourteen hold downs at the first floor and concrete beams for stability at four locations at the roof perimeter. The project also delivered code-triggered accessibility upgrades; these include path of travel modifications from the building to the accessible parking lot, new door lever hardware, interior signage, and adjustments in the existing restrooms. The project is scoped to respond only to seismic and code-triggered needs.

Reasons for Exemption
This project will modify existing interior and exterior space as required to meet seismic safety requirements with no expansion of current use. This project qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 1 of the Guidelines for the Implementation to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This exemption applies to the operation, repair, maintenance or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities or mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of the existing use. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project.
