Document Description
The Removal Action Work Plan (Project) proposes the excavation of soil impacted with Benzo(a)Pyrene and Lead at the former Berk Oil and Pacific Metal Craft Site properties located at 5614, 5622, and 5636 Shull Street in Bell Gardens, California. The estimated volume of impacted soil for removal is 5,000 cubic yards. The excavated soil will be transported and appropriately disposed of off-Site. To ensure safety and compliance, appropriate mitigations measures will be implemented throughout excavation activities, and confirmation soil samples will be taken for contingency measures.
Historically, the western portion of the Site conducted asphalt mixing and oil distribution operations from approximately 1965 through 1989; the eastern portion of the Site had industrial operations involving manufacturing, welding, production of stainless-steel tubing, use of furnaces, degreasers, steam cleaning sump, and fabrication of plastic and metal components from approximately 1955 through the early 1990’s. The project Site has since been cleared of all structures and remained undeveloped/vacant for approximately 30 years. The City of Bell Gardens Zoning Map dated April 5, 2023, indicates that the project site is currently zoned as High Density Residential (R-3) with an Electronic Billboard Overlay District located in the northwestern corner.
