Document Description
The purpose of the project is to conduct maintenance covering in-kind replacement and repair of the deteriorated timber fender systems on both the south and north sides of the Pier 9 apron. This is needed to achieve a safe and efficient berthing capacity for the pilot boat operations and enable ingress and egress in a timely manner. On the south side at berths 1 and 2, a total of 20, 14" diameter timber piles would be removed and replaced in kind. The pile material is Douglas fir, ACZA-treated and coated with polyurea, a biologically inert coating to comply with the NOAA Fisheries' criteria. On the north side, two fender panels (timber 2x10 boards) and seven timber piles located at the berth would be removed. The repair would be to install two each 18’ x 12’ square steel fender panels consisting of 18 each UHMW face panels 36” x 48”, a 5” steel backing panel consisting of plate front and back with steel channel framing, and two steel H-piles 14” x 117 x 80’ long. A total of four steel H-piles would be installed.
