Document Description
The Department of Fish and Wildlife is issuing a permit to the University of
California, Los Angeles (UCLA) pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 2081(a) for educational purposes. The Section 2081(a) permit authorizes the applicant to take longfin smelt (Spirinchus thaleichthys), coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss irideus) during the course of sampling, subject to terms and conditions set forth in the permit. The purpose of this sampling is for the UCLA permanent collections of
articulated and disarticulated vertebrate skeletons. The Section 2081(a) permit authorizes the applicant to potentially capture longfin smelt, coho salmon, Chinook salmon, and steelhead trout during sampling. The applicant will conduct year-round sampling of nearshore and offshore marine vertebrates through the use of hook & line – surface, beach seine, bottom trawl, midwater trawl, surface trawl, and purse seine through January 31, 2026.
