Document Description
During the 2022-2023 winter storms, a storm drain manhole located between 22435 and 22438 Moyers Street in Castro Valley failed. The manhole that connects the existing 12” corrugated metal pipe (CMP) also failed, resulting in the washing out of a portion of the CMP pipe. The washout of the CMP pipe further caused the manhole structure to sink and eventually collapse. In preparation for the upcoming winter season, the County performed a temporary repair by reconnecting the damaged 12” storm drain pipe to the existing concrete outfall structure. The County plans to remove this temporary connection and proceed with a permanent repair project in the summer of 2024. This permanent repair includes the removal of temporary storm drain pipe connections, the reconstruction of the storm drain manhole, the reconstruction of approximately 23 linear feet of 12” CMP, and the stabilization of the channel bank along the pipe alignment with erosion control fabric and approximately 11 cubic yards of import fill material.
