Document Description
Issue a Right of Entry Permit to the California Department of Conservation – California Geological Survey to provide access to Hearst San Simeon State Historic Monument in order to relocate, install and maintain a seismic monitoring station. Work will: - Remove an existing seismic monitor from the boiler room below the green houses; - At the northwestern edge of the employee parking lot at Elephant Hill, excavate an area of approximately 32 inches by 32 inches by 4 inches deep; - Excavate three (3) 8 inch diameter by 16 inch deep post holes for slab piles; - Pour an approximately 32 inch by 32 inch by 4-inch-thick concrete pad; and - Mount the new seismic station onto the concrete pad and connect to an existing electrical supply.

Reasons for Exemption
This project consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels; minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry and agricultural purposes; and minor alterations in land use limitations in areas with an average slope of less than 20%, which do not result in any changes in land use or density, and is included as “issuance of easements and permits” in the Department of Parks and Recreation’s list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR §15300.4.
