Within the project limits, SR-110 is referred to as the Pasadena Freeway, also known as the Arroyo Seco Parkway, connects Los Angeles with Pasadena through a scenic, historic, arts and crafts themed byway. Opened to the motoring public in 1940, SR-110 was the first freeway to be built in the western United States. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2011and designated as a National Scenic Byway under the National Scenic Byways Program in 2002 and National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1999 by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The corridor still reflects the original design and character envisioned when the roadway was built in 1939.
