Project proposes post-fire rehabilitation work on twenty-four (24) acres along the dozer line created during the CZU Lightning Complex Fire at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park to help maintain the existing fuel break, improve forest health and remove a hazardous accumulation of woody debris. Work will begin at the intersection of the Ridge Trail and Truck Trail, then continue along the dozer line to its southern end, near the intersection of the Ridge Trail and the High School Trail. Within 50-ft of either edge of the existing previously constructed dozer line and within the affected dozer line area itself, hand crews will selectively thin conifers less than 24-in. DBH and create burn piles with the slash and where necessary, remove shrubs and other less than 24-in. DBH trees to break up the continuity of fuels and create adequate spacing between the canopies of residual trees. Heavy equipment will then process, and pile larger slash created during felling operations as well as slash created during CZU suppression activities. Piles will be burned in the 23/24 winter if conditions allow.
