Document Description
Under an emergency contract, the project will repair and replace the failed sewer mainline below the Hearst Castle Visitor Center between the lift station at Highway 1 and the 4th manhole north of gate 1. Work will: - Set up a staging area north of gate 1 and establish a traffic control plan by contractor; - Saw-cut the asphalt for the existing section of trench within Hearst Castle Road; - Place a vacuum truck upstream to capture sewage during demolition and tie-in connections; - Use an excavator to remove approximately 900 linear feet of failed, sewer pipeline in the existing trench, excavate the trench, and compact the soil to receive the new pipe; - Remove old concrete from the manholes; - Replace the damaged pipeline with approximately 900 feet of 6-inch diameter C-900 PVC blue sewer pipe between the first 4 manholes; - Tie-in and grout new pipe to each manhole; - Backfill the trench, compact the soil, and restore the surface to match surrounding native soils; - Patch the saw-cuts in Hearst Castle Road to match the existing asphalt surface.
