Document Description
The project consists of maintenance activities at a 78-inch concrete trapezoidal box drain outlet at Lower Quail Canal (LQC)-1 and within the channel at LQC-2. Activities include the removal of accumulated sediment, vegetation, and debris within the channels. Vegetation removal will involve use of hand tools and sediment removal will involve use of an excavator placed on the existing access roads. Upon the completion of the sediment and vegetation removal, the channel at LQC-1 will be recontoured to previous conditions. All material removed would be appropriately disposed off-site

Reasons for Exemption
The State Water Project provides significant and critical services to many Californians. This project is exempt because it involves routine maintenance activities in order to restore existing operational facilities for its original intended purpose. This project is not expected to result in impacts to special-status species or habitats due to the implementation of avoidance and minimization measures. The Categorical Exemption Class 1 will be used for CEQA compliance as this activity will be implemented without any environmental impacts.
