Document Description
Remove the non-historic Himalayan White Pine tree in the upper garden of the east courtyard of Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument to stop the damage the tree is causing to the collection vault structure below. Work will: - Use chainsaws, pole saws, a forklift, bucket lift, and ropes and carabiners to remove limb and trunk sections piecemeal; - Use a stump grinder and/or drilled fertilizer to remove the root ball; and - Use a skid steer to haul the cut material to a green-waste dumpster. All work will comply with the Migratory Bird Protection Act, the Secretary of Interior Standards for Historic Preservation, and the California Environmental Quality Act.

This project consists of the operation, repair, maintenance or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels; the minor public or private alterations in the condition of land and/or vegetation which do not include the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees; and the maintenance, repair, stabilization, rehabilitation, restoration, preservation, conservation or reconstruction of historical resources in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing Historic Buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer.
