Document Description
Conduct trail improvements to the existing JPs Trail at Donner Memorial State to improve visitor experience, safety, sustainability, and provide additional trail loop opportunities. Along approx. 2,204 linear feet of original trail corridor, crews will use hand tools to:
• Excavate soils to perform detailed tread construction for full bench construction;
• Out-slope to maximize trail durability and sustainability
• Use excavated native materials to create a useable 2 – 3-ft tread surface;
• Remove outer edge berms to facilitate sheet flow off the trail;
• Install up to 10 – 15 drain structures;
• Conduct corridor brushing on re-engineered trail segments as needed;
• Remove approx. 10 trees less than 10-in. DBH; and
• Rehabilitate decommissioned trail segments using native material.

Project consists of the operation, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels; replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structures replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced; construction and location of limited numbers of new small facilities or structures; and minor public or private alterations in the condition of land and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees, and is included as “Trail construction or realignment” in the Department of Parks and Recreation’s list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR §15300.4.
