Document Description
In 2002 a section of failing coastal bluff approximately 8 feet wide x 8 feet high x 2-3 feet thick, known as the Mole Hole, was filled with concrete by a private property owner. It worked well until 2015 when additional erosion from El Nino storms started to undermine the infill. As a result, the California Coastal Commission has requested the removal of the infill. The property owner is requesting beach access on California State Park property in order to remove the infill. The contractor would enter the site through Fletcher Cove. The contractor proposes to drill approximately 1-inch holes into the infill to promote cracking into small more manageable pieces. A backhoe and gripping bucket would be used to grip and gently move the smaller pieces up and down until they detached from the bluff. The contractor would leave the site through Fletcher Cove and dispose of the infill at an approved land disposal facility.
