Document Description
The Department of Fish and Wildlife is issuing a permit to the California State
Polytechnic University, Humboldt pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 2081(a) for educational and scientific purposes. The Section 2081(a) permit authorizes the applicant to take Longfin Smelt (Spirinchus thaleichthys), Coho Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykis during the course of collections, subject to
terms and conditions set forth in the permit. The purpose of this sampling is for the California State Polytechnic University Humboldt’s Fred Telonicher Marine Laboratory’s research studies and permanent collections. The Section 2081(a) permit authorizes the applicant to potentially capture Longfin Smelt, Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, and steelhead trout during sampling. The applicant will conduct year-round research and permanent collection sampling of nearshore and estuarine fishes,
invertebrates, and phytoplankton through the use of hook & line, bottom trawls, plankton nets, beach seines, and squid jigs through December 31, 2026.
