Document Description
To evaluate past tectonic activity that could influence dam safety at Lake Davis in the future. Up to two trench sites on the Grizzly Valley Fault (GVF) near Lake Davis on the Mt. Hough Ranger District. Trenches will be approximately up to 100’ long by 30’ wide and up to 16’ deep. The trenches will be open for up to three weeks at each location. At the end of the project, site will be restored to original conditions using the excavated spoils, straw, and native seed per Plumas Nation Forest direction. Trenches will be compacted using a backhoe bucket. Some preliminary subsurface geologic exploration at the GVF sites will take place prior to excavation. A hand auger (2” to 4” diameter) will be used to dig a few feet into the ground and then backfilled with the same soil. If conditions are difficult, a test pit measuring up to 4’x 4’x4’ will be dug by hand and shovel and backfilled with the same soil
